Lead and be the change

Lead and be the change

the emotional roller coaster we are going through
when confronted with radical transformation.
denial
fear and anxiety
stressed
try to find out how to practice some things
discover the opportunities in the transformation
get excited
Mark Mueller-Eberstein
1. Identify vision
...have a super clear vision of what this transformation actually look like.
2. Clarity impact
Address both the negative impact and the positive impact.
3. Communicate
*Over-communicate, again and again and again.
*Address people where they are and deal with their fears.
4. Team up
*A diverse team with diverse viewpoints
sharpens your vision, gets a better strategy, gets a better plan
5. Lead
*You own the change.
*You are the leader of the change you want to see and you want to drive.
Mark Mueller-Eberstein

What the people of the Amazon know that you don’t

What the people of the Amazon know that you don’t

a scientist who works in the rainforest to document how people use local plants。
和一些the isolated and uncontacted tribes接觸,
但是他指出there's plenty of holes in it.
*The rainforest has been called the greatest expression of life on Earth. There's a saying in Suriname that I dearly love: "The rainforests hold answers to questions we have yet to ask."
*the Amazon is the mightiest landscape of all. It's a place of beauty and wonder.
Uncontacted peoples hold a mystical and iconic role in our imagination. These are the people who know nature best.
...it's people like these that know things that we don't, and they have lots of lessons to teach us.
The elders are the libraries. Every time a shaman dies, it's as if a library has burned down.
Mark Plotkin
Let's think differently. Let's make a better world. If the climate's going to change, let's have a climate that changes for the better rather than the worse. Let's live on a planet full of luxuriant vegetation, in which isolated peoples can remain in isolation, can maintain that mystery and that knowledge if they so choose...

Be Great

Be Great

Juliet Doherty
We are all great. We're all born that way.
Now it's time to really just dance.
To just perform, to enjoy yourself.
...you are the only one who can authorize yourself being great.
You are the only one who can own your own greatness.
That's your job.
Be yourself and be great.
...go and remember who you are,
and who you are is great.

The art of stillness

The art of stillness

stillness=
1.silence; quiet; hush.
2.the absence of motion.
sitting still,
...to find out what moves you most, to recall where your truest happiness lies and to remember that sometimes making a living and making a life point in opposite directions.
Pico Iyer
1.... it's not our experience that makes our lives, it's what we do with it.
2. There is nothing either good or bad, as Shakespeare told us in "Hamlet," but thinking makes it so.
In many a piece of music, it's the pause or the rest that gives the piece its beauty and its shape.
sitting still, or meditation, can lead not just to better health or to clearer thinking, but even to emotional intelligence.
Pico Iyer
So, in an age of acceleration, nothing can be more exhilarating than going slow. And in an age of distraction, nothing is so luxurious as paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is so urgent as sitting still.

Play, passion, purpose

Knowledge today is a commodity.
It's free. It's like air. It's like water.
https://www.khanacademy.org/
http://www.4ggc.net/content.php?id=46
What the world cares about is not what you know,
but what you can do with what you know.
1. Critical thinking and problem solving
(critical thinking= the ability to ask the right questions,
ask really good questions)
2. Collaboration across networks and leading by influence
3. Agility and adaptability
4. Initiative and entrepreneurialism
5. Effective oral and written communication
6. Accessing and analyzing information
7. Curiosity and imagination
Tony Wagner
But innovation is a team sport.

But the world of innovation is interdisciplinary
and problem-based learning.

But the world of innovation, as you will know,
is all about taking risks,
making mistakes, and learning from them.
*"You know we are actually thinking F is the new A."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iteration
In learning, there are no mistakes, there are iterations.

They want to make a difference in the world.

他提出
Play to passion to purpose.

Students do projects, to do research, to do experimentation,
to find and pursue an intellectual or artistic passion.

We have to be innovators in our teaching,
and in our mentoring.

Hacking Language Learning

Hacking Language Learning

Dr. Conor
Dr. Conor
*將接觸新語言視為a second childhood in a new language
*we have learned to shift our job, reframe our job.
To not from trying to seek out perfection, not making any mistakes,
but instead, just learning to cope well.
也就是being effective, not perfect,
*It's really intimidating, but mostly because we're all trying to juggle it all at once.
1. Pronunciation
發音,
不是"Listen and repeat after me."
2. Grammar
*It turns out all grammatical rules actually fall somewhere along the line
between the general conceptual and the conversation specific.
3. Vocabulary
先學the short words. The small words.
The little linking words. "Thing" is one of them.
The words like: and, or, but, of, the, who, what, when, where and why.
Dr. Conor
Anybody can learn a language. Anybody can get that foot in the door,
which is the part that really matters.
You can do it. Right here. Right now.

The history of the word okay

The history of the word okay

1. An adjective
This is okay.
2. A noun.
I gave this my okay.
3. A verb
I okayed it.
4. 副詞
She did it okay. He drives okay.
Okay!
Boston
Charles Gordon Greene, the Boston Morning Post
The Slang Dictionary of Vulgar Words。
Americans figure how to get things done rather than waiting for perfection.
“I’m okay—You’re okay.”
Okay, never a star attraction, but always in a supporting role.
Okay, it’s emphatic. It’s distinctive. It’s simple.
Americans don’t like complicated philosophies or ways of life,
and okay is about as short and simple as you can get.

Dreaming and doing

Dreaming and doing

Saku Tuominen
http://sakutuominen.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney
"If you can dream it, you can do it."
Walt Disney
Disneyland,
Saku Tuominen
What are your dreams?
Do you have any dreams?
I have a dream
How to Get a Grip?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Get-Grip-Matthew-K…/…/1843583283
The Power of Now
http://www.amazon.com/The-Power-Now-Spiritual-…/…/1577314808
http://www.books.com.tw/products/0010419274
If → then?
Saku Tuominen
Good life comes from three boxes:
have done
---What have we done?
are doing
---What are we doing?
will do
---What will we do?
*roots energy wings
In a perfect world,
the history gives you roots.
What you are doing now should give you energy.
The future should give you wings.
Saku Tuominen
1. Dreamers
2. Doers
3. Those who did
Saku Tuominen
For me,
the meaning of life is balance between the three things:
It's the balance of dreaming, doing, and things you did.

It’s a blessing in disguise.
(something that at first appears to be bad or unlucky but is actually good.)
You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.

crisis=危機
危=danger
機=opportunity
