Curious George ride a bike
一隻調皮的猴子，
很有想像力，

因著一輛新腳踏車，

The 100 Book Race
: Hog Wild in the Reading Room
hog-wild means excited, enthusiastic, jubilant, angry, etc. to the point of loss of self-restraint.

由本書標題及封面，
可推敲出這是一本關於閱讀競賽的讀本。
書中的五個小孩都有閱讀的障礙，
例如，
Charlie把襯衫上的字Charlie解讀成Cool。
Charlie的twin sister, Elizabeth,則將boiler room門上的 NO ADMITTANCE誤看成NO ALLIGATORS，
把自己嚇的半死。
這樣的小孩在閱讀室裡接受
Miss Pampaluzzi的另類教導，
在她的巧思與鼓勵之下，
小孩們終於學會閱讀，
每個人都能閱讀100本書或有文字的真實性教材 (authetic materials)，
而Miss Pampaluzzi也信守承諾，
在走廊裡做橫翻筋斗，
做為閱讀加強課程的歡樂ending。
在讀本中，
Miss Pampaluzzi提到一些閱讀的方法：
1. If you can't figure out ta word, look at the rest of the sentence. Sometimes it'll pop right up that way.

If I had a sheep 如果我有一隻羊
喜歡小女孩的答案...小女孩說:
If I had a sheep,
I would teach her to count...
...and tell the time.
I would build her a rocket...

Mouse and the Bullies
Mouse and the Bullies Part 1
Mouse and the Bullies Part 2
Mouse為Mark的暱稱，
因為他的父母認為他是個”a sweet shy little thing.”
但也由於這個綽號，
讓他在學校開始受到兩位同學Tom和Danny的欺凌。
他們笑他:
“There’s a moose loose about this hoose!”
表面上，
他們和Mouse為友，
但漸漸地，
他們開始用語言或肢體開始攻擊他。
Mouse很不開心，
但他無法擺脫他們。
因為如此，Mouse的家庭生活也受影響，他也開始拒絕上學。
他不想讓別人知道他的景況，
因此他自己想辦法解決。
1. 他去圖書館偷有關霸凌的書，想用裡頭的提醒:
*Practice walking with your back straight and your shoulders back.
You’ll feel bigger and more confident and people will be less likely to pick on you.
If someone teases you, think of something clever or funny to say back.
但是這幾個方法都無效。
因此Mouse又試了第二個方法。
2. 打電話給ChildLine求救。
第一次Mouse只有說出他的委屈。
第二次Mouse接受建議用筆按日期寫出受欺凌的事實。
最後，
還是Mouse的媽媽主動告知學校，
學校開始介入了解及輔導。

這一問句的前提是: I love you.
但如何才能讓別人了解自己心中的愛?
如何才說出/表明對一個人的愛?

我喜歡你
我喜歡你 這一本中文翻譯繪本，也附了英文的原文，
內文很簡單，圖畫也很簡單，
傳達的訊息其實也很簡單:
我們要勇於表達生活中的喜歡，
珍惜，
感謝，
讚美。
曾看到這樣的句子: Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.
同樣地，我們的家人，我們的工作夥伴，我們的朋友，及其他與我們相遇的人，都帶給我們許多的人生幸福。
我喜歡書中提到的單純快樂:
When I say something funny, you laugh.

to catch a butterfly. And so it went...喜歡這本的繪本的理由：

Grandma and the Pirates
An interesting adventure story
on the sea!Summary:
The aroma of Grandma's wonderful noodle pudding attracts three
hungry pirates. As the three savage men can't cook, they are hungry for the nice food. They go ashore, walk into Grandma's house, eat all of the pudding,
and sail away with Grandma and the parrot Ollie/Oliver!
Grandma's granddaughter, Melissa, comes aboard the ship and tries to rescue her grandma and the parrot. It takes quite a while though. But in the end she outsmarts the three greedy pirates. And Hurrah! They have the pirates' big ship, too.
Language:
a rich vocabulary of food:
strawberry shortcake, mashed potatoes, pickled beets, and so on...
some useful words connected with ship:
deck, anchor, sail, abroad, and so on...
Interesting sentences:
1. Then, as if that wan't savage enough, they popped Grandma
and Oliver inot a pirate sack too.
3. He laughed so hard that he woke himself up.
3. Another time Grandma thought they should hide in a treasure
chest and get carred ashore. Thhat might have worked if
only Oliver hadn't sneezed!

The Christmas Day Kitten
It describes how a stray cat, Debbie, enjoys her occassional visit to a kind woman's house where she gets fed and sits in front of the
fire with three Basset Hounds before she leaves.
No one knows where the shy cat goes.
And on a Christmas morning, Debbie comes back again and gives the kind woman a most precious Christmas present.
A pretty touching story to read at Christmas time.

The Trouble with Dad

這是一本小男孩敘述很會"make robots"的天才老爸和家人互動的故事，爸爸在煩悶的工作之餘的嗜好就是making robots，
爸爸待在一個掛著"STRICTLY NO ENTRY"小屋，很少理會家人。
爸爸的機器人會"cutting grass", "catching jewel thieves"及"taking old ladies across the road"，
但是機器人卻製造了大麻煩。
這個麻煩卻為家庭帶了可喜的改變，
父子的關係也因此而改善。

繪本內容：一隻公雞想要見見天地之大，展開探險之旅，沿途有些好奇的朋友
紛紛加入（two cats, three frogs, four turtles,five fish)，但
由於他的探險缺乏規劃，既沒有food也沒有shelter，因此一同探險
的隊友紛紛告退，傷心的公雞只好打道回府，在夢中環遊世界。
教學應用：可適合教數字、認識動物、學習加法及減法
簡單的故事，但也可以引發我們思考「家」的可貴和「朋友」的定義。
