Extra Credit

* If you don't practice reading English, you'll never get better at it.
* I think I have gotten better at English mostly by reading books.
* ...identify the main ideas in nonfiction writing samples, and then make inferences and draw conclusion.
Frog and Toad Are Friends
Robinson Crusoe
Hatchet
Kim

San Diego Zoo Sydney & Friends

San Diego Zoo
Sydney & Friends
 Don’t let the water run when you brush your teeth!
Animals and plants need lots of water too!
Please don’t waste it.
 Help your family recycle your soda cans and bottles.
They can be reused to save natural resources.
 Recycle your toys. Give them away.
Other kids will love them even after you get tired of them.
 Reuse paper grocery sacks for your arts and crafts projects.
They will save a lot of trees.
 If you get cold in the house, don’t turn up the heat.
Put on a sweater and warm socks.
This will save energy.
 When you visit parks and wild places, keep your dog on a leash.
This protects us smaller creatures.
 Please do not litter. Pick up trash you find along beaches and streams.
Some animals think that trash is food and eating it will make them very sick.
 Be kind to all animals.
Remember, we are all neighbors.

How pollution is changing the ocean’s chemistry

How pollution is changing the ocean’s chemistry

(ocean acidification, or the evil twin of climate change)。
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_acidification
http://highscope.ch.ntu.edu.tw/wordpress/?p=34382
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_series
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii_Ocean_Time-series。

12 truths I learned from life and writing

12 truths I learned from life and writing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Lamott
1. All truth is a paradox.
2. Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes─ including you.
3. There is almost nothing outside of you that will help in any kind of lasting way...
4. Everyone is screwed up, broken, clingy and scared, even the people who seem to have it most together.
5. Chocolate with 75 percent cacao is not actually a food.
6. Writing.
Every writer you know writes really terrible first drafts, but they keep their butt in the chair. That's the secret of life.
bird by bird and really god-awful first drafts.
http://www.nytimes.com/books/97/08/17/reviews/lamott-bird.html
7. Publication and temporary creative successes are something you have to recover from.
8. Families.
Families are hard, hard, hard, no matter how cherished and astonishing they may also be. Again, see number one.
Earth is forgiveness school.
9. Food.
Try to do a little better.
10. Grace.
The movement of grace is what changes us, heals us and heals our world.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/grace
(Laughter really is carbonated holiness. It helps us breathe again and again and gives us back to ourselves, and this gives us faith in life and each other.)
11. God just means goodness.
A good name for God is: "Not me."
Emerson: The happiest person on Earth is the one who learns from nature the lessons of worship.
12. Death.
Death is as sacred as birth. And don't worry — get on with your life.
Ram Dass: When all is said and done, we're really just all walking each other home.
人生,

4 reasons to learn a new language

4 reasons to learn a new language

John McWhorter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McWhorter
1. Imbibe a culture
2. Bilingualism is healthy
3. Languages are just an awful lot of fun
4. We live in an era when it's never been easier to teach yourself another language

Hidden toxins in the fish we eat

Hidden toxins in the fish we eat

…if the ocean ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
https://zh.wikipedia.org/…/%E5%A4%9A%E6%B0%AF%E8%81%AF%E8%8…
http://pub.cjps.ntpc.edu.tw/~cnn03001/2013-writing/p5.htm
http://www.hkredtide.org/big5/red.html
