The Old Man

The Old Man
by Annie Chan

Every early morning,
When the sky is still dark,
The old man rides an old bike
To the small garden by the river.

On his way there,
He stops now and then
To pick up trash from the ground.
The old man often wonders
Why people do not care about a cleaner world.

Every day,
The old man works in the garden.
He grows flowers. 
He trims the plants.
He mows the lawn.
His garden is a delight to behold.

Every time
When I pass by the small garden,
My heart is filled with joy.
Because I am glad to know a man
Who has a great love and respect for our land.

Love River

Love River

Love River,

Flowing through Kaohsiung to the harbor,

Used to be black, dirty, and smelly.

When people walked past the river,

They would cover their noses with their hands.

Not many people could stand the odor,

So it stopped being a haunt.

Now,

After years of cleaning,

Love River is clear and beautiful.

Fish can be seen swimming in it.

Small boats sail on it.

Happily,

People come back to enjoy the beautiful scenery

Along the banks.

Love River

Is now a place

That gives people joy and wonder.

Saling Around the Around

Sailing Around the World

Brian has a dream.
He wants to sail around the world.

One day, Brian lost his job,
But he was not sad.
He said to his wife,
Sandra, let's go sailing around the world."

Sandra said yes.
So they bought a ten-meter sailing boat.
Off they went with their three children in the boat
To see the wonderful world.

Their boat sailed across deep seas and oceans.
Sometimes, big whales swam near their boat,
And seeing them makes the children laugh.
From their boats,
They saw hills, islands, and mountains.
They also saw different shapes of cloud.
They never felt so close to nature,
And how they loved it!

After two years' journey on the sea,
Brian was sailing back home.
He said to himself,
It's the best two years of my life."
Brian was happy to make his dream come true.

Kindness

Kindness

It’s a world of love,
So let’s spread kindness to people around us.

Say something nice to your family.
Do something wonderful for a friend.
Give a kindly help to a stranger.
Your kindness is as warm as the spring wind.

Be friendly to our earth, too.
Pick up paper and bottles.
Make toys from old boxes.
Feed the birds in winter.
Do all you can to make the world a better place.

Smile, smile, smile.
Your smile is as beautiful as sun flowers.
Smile, smile, smile.
Let your smile spread the message of love
And warm the hearts of others.
