How to get better at the things you care about?


任何工作或職務,
做一段時間後,
難免有停滯期,
這段期間,
即使費心力,
似乎很難有所突破。
Eduardo Briceño在演說中,
以the learning zone和the performance zone指出
造成原地踏步的原因所在。
首先區別這兩者。
*The learning zone
Goal: Improve
Activities for Improvement
Concentrate on: Haven't mastered yet
Mistakes to be expected
*The performance zone
Goal: Do as best as we can
Activities for execution
Concentrate on: Have mastered
Mistakes to be minimized
兩者之間的差異處:
The performance zone maximizes our immediate performance, while the learning zone maximizes our growth and our future performance.
一些工作,
例如教育工作、醫學界,
之所以會停滯,
常常是因為認為自己已夠好,
能勝任,
而再也不在the learning zone進行deliberate practice,
刻意就不足之處,
精進,
允許犯錯,
向人請益,
而一味停在the performance zone 。
Eduardo Briceño以Demosthenes為例,
分享他為了精進專業所下的功夫,
很獨特,
也真有心,

Eduardo Briceño的建議:
*So the way to high performance is to alternate between the learning zone and the performance zone, purposefully building our skills in the learning zone, then applying those skills in the performance zone.
兩者可相輔相成。
*...the more time we spend in the learning zone, the more we'll improve.
要學,才會進步。
另外,犯錯是the learning zone極寶貴的學習歷程,
也常帶來實質的進步。
但是,
現在的教育環境,
職場,
所重視的是正確答案,
好表現,
因而都是屬於the performance zone,
久而久之,
就少了創造力和進步的空間。
因此不要忽略了the learning zone的重要元素:
the observation, reflection and adjustment....
在處處重視doing和performing的時代,
個人也可以有所為:
以低風險,
從事
exploring, asking, listening,experimenting, reflecting, striving and becoming...
不斷地學習,
才能增自信。
學習、嘗試、犯錯、改進、修正,
都是增進好表現的養分。
