The Cry of a River

The Cry of a River

by Annie Chan

I'm a river.

I used to be clean and beautiful.

Hundreds of boats floated up and down on me.

Thousands of fish once lived happily in my kingdom.

My life was good when I was young.

I'm now sick and old.

I look dirty.

I smell bad.

I feel terrible.

Boats are no longer seen in my little world.

Fish are almost gone.

No one knows how lonely I am.

Please take more pity on this old man.

No more used bottles or dirty cans.

No more bikes or motorcycles.

No more dead animals.

I'm dying.

Please have mercy on me.
