Creating a Bullying-free Classroom

When a school is an exciting positive place to be, students tend to respect the rules and actively engage in productive activities.
---Carol S. McMullen
Bullying is rampant in many schools around the world. It’s a problem that cannot be neglected. In this book, the author, Carol McMullen, teaches teachers how to set up a “bully-proofing” plan with the following tips:

1. Teach students to create and practice class rules based on the
    standards of behavior.
2. Teach them to distinguish between conflicts and bullying
    situations.
3. Teach them to learn and practice ten safe strategies to use
    when facing a bully.
4. Teach them to make a personal bully-proof plan based on their
    unique strengths.
5. Teach them how their roles as active bystanders can diffuse
    bullying situations.
6. Teach them to build confidence by taking on responsibilities in
    the class community.
7. Teach them the how-to’s of being a friend.
8. Teach them to master a three-step problem-solving model to
    resolve conflicts with peers.

We teachers all need to help build a learning environment that is safe and happy for the students.
