本書的特點為

• 1. 閱讀文章取材新穎有趣，例如"A Cool Hotel" (an unusual hotel which is made of ice and snow)、"Smart Refrigerators" (online refrigerators which can order food from the supermarket)、"Elephant Art" (elephants which paint to help build sanctuaries for many more elephants)。
• 2. 具思考性，例如"The Underwater Hotel"的課後練習，Think it Over: Jules' Undersea Lodge is not a regular hotel. Why is it unusual? Write down three reasons and talk about them with your classmate。
• 3. 運用graphic organizers做為閱讀兩篇類似題材文章的比較(每二章有一個Activity Menu"的活動設計。例如"Senior Athletes"及"A New Life"列出兩篇文章的關鍵字詞，並以星星圖的五個頂點分為(places、people、feelings、activities、things)讓讀者依類別填入星星裡。
  
• 4. Go Online的作業設計。例如Use an Internet search engine like Google and type in "Ice Hotel." The Ice Hotel in Chapter 11 is in Canada. Are there other ice hotels? Where? Write the names of the hotels, their cities, and their Web site addresses below.
