"grab",到底是怎麼抓住的?

那天在上英語學程
Sideways Stories from Wayside School
Unit 27 Joy時,
看到一段這樣的話:
But then Joy had second thoughts. She put back the cake. Then she grabbed Dameon's whole lunch.
我問學生"grab",到底是怎麼抓住的東西的?

我這樣問,
其實是要學生從字裡行間去「感覺」一個字,
這正是閱讀的一種樂趣。
Longman Dictionary of American English對grab下的定義:
to take hold of something with a sudden or violent movement.

最近我在閱讀Reader's Digest April, 2006
"Great Lakes Journey"
談到船運的式微,

看到grab這個字的妙用:
But by the late 1850, passengers had switched to trains. Railways later grabbed much of the freigt too. More recently, trucks joined the competition. 

從文章段落認識一個字,感受一個字,的確有趣多了!
