Island of the Blue Dolphins

Island of the Blue Dolphins如同作者Scott O'Dell所說:
Many of my books are set in the past, but the problems of isolation,
moral decisions, greed, need for love and problems of today as well.

書中的女主角Karana, an Indian girl，因為種種的境遇，
一個人留在島嶼上過了十幾年，
因此書中許多篇幅描述她如何利用自然的資源生存。
她與動物的互動讓她感悟到：
Animals and birds are like people, too,
though they do not speak the same or do the same things.
Without them the earth would be an unhappy place.
最後她在白人的協助下離開她的島嶼，
因為她說:
I thought of many things,
but stronger was the wish to be where people lived,
to hear their voices and their laughter.
書中最讓我驚訝的長期與大自然為伍的
Karana是如此堅毅、能吃苦、而有耐心。
手是如此靈巧！
她與動物的和諧相處，
也讓自己有寧靜的心，
展現生命動人的篇章。
其實這本書中還有許多有待深思的問題，
小說的佈局及故事的發展，
仍需要我多思考及比較，
看似簡單的小說，
其實深具意義！
