If they would find a cure when I'm a kid
I could ride a bike and sail on rollerblades, and
I could go on really long nature hikes

If they would find a cure when I'm a teenager
I could earn my license and drive a car, and
I could dance every dance at my senior prom

If they would find a cure when
I'm a young adult
I could travel around the world and teach peace, and
I could marry and have children of my own

I'm grown old
I could visit exotic places and appreciate culture
And proudly share pictures of my grandchildren

If they would find a cure when
I'm alive
I could live each day without pain and machines, and
I could celebrate the biggest thank you of life ever

Some people see a glass
With some water in it and say,
"Oh yes, that glass is half full!"
Some people see a glass
With some water in it and say,
"Oh no, that glass is half empty!"
I hope that I am one of the
People who is always able to Look at each of my glasses and
See them as at least half full.
That's very important in life,
Because if you live feeling like
Your glass is half empty, well,
It may as well be empty all the way.

But also for hugging and touching so gently

Our mouths and tongues are for tasting
But also for saying words, like

"Thank you, God, for all of these things."

I'd like to have a tree house,

High up on the big tree in back of our house.

I could watch all the cars go by,

Counting how many people there are in them.

It would be an interesting game to play.

 

I'd like to have a tree house,

I could say hi to the birds

Flying past the tree house.

It would be a great way to get close to them.

I could watch the clouds

Floating by in the sky.

常閱讀，也喜歡Andrew Clements的作品，
他的作品常給我思考的空間。
校園中的一個故事，
卻也是嚴肅的社會議題。
一件夾克，
引發的事件、反思和改變，
深烙在我腦海。
值得一看的書。一件孩童的舊夾克，
由於雇主 (白人) 和清潔女工 (黑人)的情誼而轉贈。
當這件夾克穿在清潔女工的孫子Daniel上，
卻被不知情的雇主兒子Phil 指為偷竊，
誤解、衝突、了解、道歉、合解。
兩位小男孩成長、成熟的歷程。

這件事引發Phil的思考，
字字句句都有其衝擊力：

1. This morning, what if Daniel had been a white kid? Would I have grabbed him like that? If he had looked like he belonged in that jacket, would I have said he stole it?
(p.36)

2. How come you never told me I was prejudiced? (p.37)

3. Dad is ...prejudiced- like me. (p.43)

4. ...Same house, only different people. And practically the same neighborhood, too! (p.74)

書中Phil能為自己的錯誤而道歉，
是值得肯定的行為。
Phil had already said he was sorry. Twice. Because sometimes sorry had to be said twice. Sometimes even more.

一件夾克的故事，

Senses
因為五官，
我們有視、聽、嗅、觸、味的感覺，
用心去感受，
細細去體會。

 

(學習單來源：跨科統整學習單 4~6年級)有趣的遊戲，
以走迷宮的方式，
提示如何表達對各個圖的感受。

十七個圖的句子分別如下：
1.It tastes sweet.
2.It feels soft.
3.It smells bad.
4.It looks sleepy.
5.They sound loud.
6.It smells good.
7.It feels rough.
8.It tastes bitter.
9.It feels sharp.

其中第 4、10、14及17句子和視覺有關。


和學生核對學習單答案之後，
接著是為學生朗讀和一本和感覺、感受有關的英文繪本： Goldilocks and the Three Bears，
例如繪本中表達Goldilocks試坐三張不同椅子不同的感受：
